The book was written a very long time ago and begins with one of the world's worst creation myths. The terrible treatment that it gave to the First Woman led in a straight line down the centuries to the Inquisitions and the loss of life of millions of mothers, sisters and wives who were burned at the stake in front of their families including their young children.
Pagan women had territorial rights but the hammer of the Church Authorities that declared them guilty of witchcraft also held the power to grab their land. The trauma of the Burning Times still lies deep in the collective psyche of many women of European heritage. The energetic scars of other expressions of patriarchal domination afflict women worldwide.
Let’s delete that raggedy old awful Adam and Eve jeremiad and bring online stories of the Great Mother. Here is one:
Eve and The First Apple
One day, from her All-Embracing Fullness, Mother Earth looked at Eve and said, “Close your hand, dear daughter Eve, I have something to give you.” Eve closed her left hand and soon felt a slight sensation in her palm. When she opened her hand she found therein a lovely tiny brown seed. “Plant this seed in the earth, nurture and care for it. From this tiny seed will grow a beautiful tree that will give you delicious fruit,” said Mother Earth.”
So Eve lovingly planted the seed. She waited expectantly. Then one day Eve discovered that a tiny tree had sprouted out of the earth. The tree grew healthy and strong. One early spring it filled with pinkish white flowers. The bees enjoyed the nectar and the little flowers formed fruit. The fruit grew bigger and bigger and turned a beautiful shade of red. Mother Earth saw that it was good and said to Eve: “The fruit is now ready to eat.”
Eve then picked the very first juicy, luscious apple. She ate it down to the core. Being a curious woman, Eve opened up the core to see how it looked inside. To her surprise and delight, therein she found several tiny brown seeds. Mother Earth said, “Eve, now you can plant these seeds and grow many trees and thousands of apples. Soon there will be enough for you and all of your descendants.”
Eve’s eyes lit up at the thought of such abundance. “Oh, thank you so much, Mother Earth!” “It’s my delight,” the Great Mother replied.
And that is how the Earth became a jewel in the universe – a planet of Peace and Plenty.
Beautiful story.
HOW I LOVE THIS!
